How to Buy a Computer Desk

Now that you have your new computer built, you need a computer desk to put it on. Here are a few things to consider before purchasing a computer desk.

Style & Size

The range of styles for a computer desk can vary widely. For example, there are corner desks, workstation desks, L shaped desks, etc. Choose the style best for you, your decor and the room dimensions.

The size of the desk is an important consideration. Make sure you measure your room before purchasing a desk. You wouldn't want to make the mistake of getting it home and finding out that it won’t fit the space you envisioned it going into! Keep in mind too, how you will physically get it into the room you are putting it into.

The availability of storage on your computer desk is also an important point. Make sure you have plenty of room for your software, books, accessories, etc.

Other Considerations

A computer desk ultimately can be as fancy or as plain as you desire. A fancy computer desk might have features such as DVD/CD racks, multiple drawers, adjustable monitor platform, and a sliding keyboard drawer. A plain computer desk can be something as simple as a table.

Ergonomic Considerations

The most important consideration when buying a computer desk, ergonomically speaking, is the desk height. The normal height of 29-30 inches (floor to desk top) can be uncomfortable when sitting in front of your computer for long periods of time.

The desk height should be such that the keyboard is situated just above the level of your lap. This allows your elbows to be at a comfortable angle and minimizes pressure on the wrists and fingers. The desired desk height can be achieved either by raising your chair or the computer gaming desk having adjustable legs that can be changed to the desired height.

The best position for the monitor is directly in front of you. The top of the screen should be level with your eyes. Again, you might have to adjust your computer chair or the computer desk to achieve the desired level. Check out the best online deals for a computer desk here.
