Step 2- How to Prepare the Computer Case

This article will cover the prepare the computer case tutorial.

Since you will be working with a tower case take both sides off and put them somewhere they won't be scratched.

The case comes with a package of assembly hardware usually located inside the case when shipped.

For now remove the four screws holding the power supply inside the case and set it aside. That will make it easier to install the motherboard and hard/DVD drives.

Mount a cooling fan in the front of the case and a cooling fan in the rear of the case. Most cases will have a spot to mount cooling fans in front and rear.

Computer Fan

Look closely at the fans and you will notice an arrow on the frame. The top arrow points in the direction of air flow. The bottom arrow in the direction of fan rotation.

Mount the front fan with the arrow indicating that air is being pulled into the case( mount the fan with the arrow pointing into the case).

The rear fan will be mounted with the arrow pointing to the outside of the case. Place the rear fan as close as possible to the power supply and AGP slot. What we've done is set up a flow of air through the case to maximize cooling of the components.

Next, install the custom I/O shield into the rectangular opening at the rear of the case to complete the prepare the computer case tutorial.

I/O Shield Knock out the one that's in the case with the butt of your screwdriver and install the one that came with your motherboard.

The I/O shield is labeled with Mouse, Keyboard, video, etc. The PS/2 ports should go nearest to the power supply side of the case.
